Every desktop or notebook or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, and any applications that are installed on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each and every application runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so you will be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide as many as 3 different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs on the market and we supply all 3 instead of only one since we realize that you might want to set up some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are different software programs you can install on the web server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you wish to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels too. In the event you decide that you need to have some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you want. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server
plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to choose from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they’re also known as the most dependable and risk-free OSs. We provide three different ones because each one of them is backed by a different community. The packages which you could add on your hosting server are different and this may matter if you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the Operating System that you will choose. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, yet if necessary, we can always set up the server once again with an alternative one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the plan at any time, we can update your OS on a regular basis so as to keep it as risk-free as possible.
